The Innagural SCB NACCB is Being Held in California's Beautiful San Francisco Bay Area

We will be convening the first SCB North American Congress for Conservation Biology at the Oakland Marriott City Center Hotel & Convention Center http://oaklandcvb.com/meeting_oakland_convention.cfm. The hotel and conference rooms are seamlessly connected making for many possible encounters among the attendees and easy places inside and outside the hotel to chat over a drink or bite to eat. The entire hotel, rooms, and conference facilities have been remodeled in a simple elegant style http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/oakdt-oakland-marriott-city-center/. Rooms in the block for NACCB 2012 are $134, a bargain for the Bay Area. We will offer a limited number of student rooms on the UC Berkeley campus and provide links to additional hotels in the immediate vicinity.

CULTURE AND CLIMATE
City Center Oakland is urban renewal at its best with many wonderfully eclectic, inexpensive restaurant, bars, and cafes a few steps from the hotel. It is about a 10 minute walk to Jack London Square on the San Francisco Bay where there are many seafood restaurants, shops, and a kayak rental shop to let you explore from the water. The summer months in Oakland offer fine and very comfortable weather with dry sunny days (highs of 21°C / 70°F during late summer) and cool nights. Evening fog can occur but this usually lifts by the morning.

CONVENIENT TRANSPORTATION
Almost all airlines service Oakland, via Oakland, San Francisco, and San Jose Airports, at a wide variety of price options. It could not be easier to get to and from the site of NACCB 2012: a BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit Train) station is conveniently located directly across the street from the entrance to the Marriott Hotel. BART trains service San Francisco and Oakland Airports as well as other travel hubs, and can also shuttle conference attendees to and from downtown San Francisco, UC Berkeley, and other important locations. Amtrak trains and city buses offer other transportation alternatives, for regional to local travel. Of course, walking is the most pleasant option for getting around town, "carbon free" (please consider other options at night, unless walking with a group).
